Lakeside boys advanced to the Final Four of the 1A boys baseball tournament with two hard fought games in Moses Lake on Saturday. In game one, the Eagles battled a formidable foe from Kiona-Benton, the #1 seed from District #5, before coming out on top 10 to 7 in 8 innings. KB had an answer for everything Lakeside could muster, including scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning, to tie the score at 7, after Lakeside had errupted for 4 runs in the top of the 7th. The game highlighted two very talented teams who competed hard to the end. Offensively, the Eagles were led by Anthony Froemke with two triples, Kyle Stillar with 3 hits (3 rbi's), Johnny Gilrein with the game winning single in the 8th, as well as a sac fly and suicide squeeze to give him 3 rbi's, Jake Graham two hits, and Rylin Dukes with another triple. Kyle Stillar pitched a scoreless 8th for the win. The defense was highlighted by a phenomenal play by Jake Graham, in the bottom of the 6th inning, as he snagged a ball in the dirt, on a suicide squeeze attempt by KB, throwing the runner out at 3rd and preventing KB from taking the lead. High School baseball at its best!
In game two, Lakeside faced NEA foe, Chewelah, who had earlier defeated Cle Elum, to advance to the final eight. Lakeside would not be denied as they methodically dispatched of Chewelah, 6 to 2, behind the pitching of Rylin Dukes and timely hitting throughout the lineup, with Froemke and Dukes registering 2 hits apiece and everyone else contributing. The game highlighted multiple outstanding defensive plays from both teams. Congrats to Chewelah for a fine season.
Lakeside advances to play Naches Valley, on Friday, with the winner playing for the 1A state championship on Saturday, in Wenatchee.
