Lakeside Volleyball Team Stages an Amazing Comeback

The Lakeside Volleyball team headed to Freeman on Wednesday night, October 22, in hopes of capturing the NEA League Title. Both teams had only lost once during league play. Freeman's loss was to the Eagles in the first round.

Freeman came out on fire. It was the Scotties' senior night, and everything seemed to be going their way. The Eagles remained calm and patient. The Eagles found themselves down two games to none. The league title race looked bleak, but the Eagles dug in and took control of game three. Having the momentum on their side, the Eagles grabbed the fourth game too. It was two games to two.

The fifth game was a nail-biter. The Eagles were down most of the fifth game but stayed within two points of the Scotties until they were able to tie the score at 10-10. It was tied again at 13-13 when Lakeside took advantage of an error by a Freeman hitter and then ended the match 15-13 with a kill by Cami Alexander. The Eagles had refused to lose and found themselves the League Champions.

The Eagles had impressive play by the whole team that night, but some of the highlights were Cami Alexander with 20 kills and 13 assists while Lexie Zappone had 22 assists. Alex Daggy added 9 kills and 4 blocks. Sara Moffatt led the defense with 32 digs, and Brandi Mahoney served 24 for 24.

Congratulations to the Lady Eagles.
