Lakeside Eagles Volleyball ON TO STATE!!!!

One and Three

The number one seed Lakeside Eagles from the Northeast A League traveled to Moses Lake on Saturday, November 8, 2008, to meet the number three seed Brewster Bears from the Caribou Trail League in a loser-out, winner-to-state District 6/7 Regional volleyball contest.

The Lady Eagles started out slowly, and the Bears came out tough. The Eagles couldn't find their rhythm until late in the first game - rallying from a 10 to 18 deficit - and only losing 23 to 25. The team found their confidence and played strongly in the the second game, winning 25 to 11, tying the match at one game a piece. The Bears tried to battle back in the third game, but the Eagles held them off 25 to 21. The Lady Eagles knew they had to shut the Bears down in the fourth game.

In resounding fashion and proving that their number one seed was no fluke, Lakeside pounded the Bears by a score of 25 to 4 - a RARE margin of victory in rally scoring. Number one Lakeside downed number three Brewster, but the notable feat of the day was how Lakeside rebounded from being down after game one and won three straight, earning a trip to the WIAA State 1A Volleyball Tournament slated for November 14-15, in Yakima, Washington.

Cami Alexander led the Eagles with 15 kills and 7 aces. Heather Hesselgesser, Leslie Stillar, and Alex Daggy each added 7 kills a piece in the offensive category. Sara Moffatt led defensively with 20 digs. Heather Hesselgesser and Leslie Stillar both chipped in 12 digs a piece, while Alex Daggy added 2 blocks.

The Eagles head into the 1A Tournament riding a 4-match win streak and look to come home with more hardware to proudly display in the volleyball trophy cases! Good luck girls!
