Lakeside bounces back!

Lakeside bounced back from their only loss of the season to defeat Omak, the #3 seed from the CTL, in a loser out game, 2 to 0. With the win, Lakeside advances to the state tournament as the District 6/7 #3 seed and will face Kiona-Benton, the District 5 #1 seed.

In a closely contested game, Anthony Froemke pitched what could of been his best game of the year, as he yielded 3 hits, striking out 6 and walking only 1. Hits were hard to come by for both teams, as the Omak pitcher matched Froemke in pitching a great game. Lakeside scored their first run on a misplayed fly ball to left field that left Travis Corigliano on second base. Scott Richards than sacrificed him to third, with a nice bunt. Corigliano scored when Jake Graham hit a sacrifice fly to center, driving in the games first run. There it stayed until the bottom of the 6th when Kyle Stillar led off with a base on balls, stole 2nd, stole 3rd and scored on a perfectly executed suicide squeeze by Richards.

You gotta love it! Well done Eagles!

Nine wrestlers qualify for state

The Lakeside wrestling team qualified nine athletes to the state tournament and won the regional tournament last weekend at Colfax. Qualifying nine wrestlers to state puts the Eagles in a tough position to win the state title, but the Eagles are up for the challenge.

Royal
City, coached by former Eagle Bart Orth, has qualified eighteen athletes, while Orting squeezed an impressive thirteen out of their region. In an interview with Coach Jones about Lakeside's shot at the title, he said, “We have been in tougher situations before and come out on top.”

His competitive nature brought him to his next point as he said, “Twenty athletes or nine athletes, the goal is the same — to reach our peak level of performance. We have nine fighters going with us, and we are proud to head into a battle with these nine. They will fight.”

The state tournament is this weekend, February 16th and 17th, in Tacoma.
